Literatu Street

In 2017 I was invited to be part of a group exhibition titled Literatu Street, at Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania. The exhibition was to be a series of flags, each designed by a different artist who had chosen a work of literature as their starting point for inspiration. I began with a book I had loved for many years, Invisible Cities, by Italio Calvino, which seemed apt given that I had never visited Vilnius and the city was in many ways invisible to me. I decided to write to the people of Vilnius, hoping to engage residents in a correspondence, so that I might come to know their city through their eyes. No one ever wrote back to me.
